The Commons envisions a society of equity, justice and shared opportunity and this requires the re-organizing of our economy, social relations and democratic political institutions. Fortunately, there are a number of forward looking economists creating new answers to seemingly intractable problems. They are asking fundamental questions about how ‘value’ has been defined, who decides what that means, and who gets to measure it. They are reframing concepts of debt, deficit, and growth. They are challenging governments to be more ambitious, to be guided by the interests of a more equitable public good.
