In this thoughtful opinion piece, Maytree’s Alan Broadbent and Elizabeth McIsaac emphasize the essential responsibility of government to invest or ‘spend money, big money’ to build a society where human and social rights are guaranteed. One where all people can flourish and live with dignity. To worry only about budget deficits and debt entrenches past economic thinking and derails investments in legislation, policies, programs and practices that meet human needs thus moving us to a caring community.
