
As part of their Essential Solutions Project, the Broadbent Institute brought together an inter-disciplinary group of policy experts to help them think through the complex challenges in devising a workable approach to the implementation of a national basic income strategy. The challenges include safeguarding existing social programs that are working, ensuring incomes that strive to end poverty, while also managing the trade-off between work disincentives and the clawback rate on earned income. challenges equitable and resilient future for all of us. Not an easy task, but as we came to realize the need for such approaches during COVID-19, the time had come to critically assess how it could be done within a progressive framework.
